The team set out to give new life to reclaimed materials sourced from Retrovius. The formal and austere nature of table and bannister components was subverted by transforming them into a modular, playful game. The design encourages users to stack these elements into new exploratory forms, creating ever-changing tactile landscapes. The system uses a network of joints that allow for endless combinations, blending the legacy of the original materials with a contemporary, interactive approach.
The project aimed to shift the perception of these objects from serious and static to dynamic and playful. By introducing the concept of play, the design reinvented their purpose, offering an imaginative way to engage with reclaimed materials while celebrating sustainable design. The original forms were evolved into new curious digital iterations that were then cut from discarded materials by a CNC machine. This was a zero waste project using only discarded materials; every waste element was reworked into the design. Together, old and reclaimed raw surfaces reached new heights of conscious creativity.
